A $44.8 million expressway to be built between South Academy Boulevard and the Colorado Springs Airport will be named in honor of the late civil rights leader the Rev. Milton E. Proby, officials said Tuesday. The expressway naming will not be official until it is approved by the City Council, but Mayor Lionel Rivera doesn't expect opposition when it comes up, expected at the Jan. 24 meeting.

El Pomar to Name Room for Proby
The El Pomar Foundation said Tuesday it will rename a "legacy room" in its Penrose House conference center as the Milton E. Proby Cultural Heritage Room at a dedication ceremony Feb. 4. Besides honoring the pastor and civil rights leader, the room will be a place to enshrine other area minority leaders whose lives embodied the ideals of civic involvement and leadership that characterized Proby, said Theophilus Gregory, a foundation vice president.
