Little Left of Ban On Smoking ; 'Fragile' Coalition Weighs Its Options

DENVER - State senators burned another hole in the proposed statewide smoking ban Tuesday, exempting bingo halls before approving a measure now mostly stripped of its original intent. House Bill 1175 sponsors say that if they are unable to patch the smoking ban back together they will kill it before it gets to Gov. Bill Owens' desk. That would leave the door wide open for a citizen initiative to be placed on the November ballot.

Fort Carson is calling it "Veteran's University": two days of classes to help returning soldiers adjust to being home. The schedule includes seminars on combat stress, conflict resolution and even a moneymanagement class with tips on car-buying for cash-flush soldiers. There's also a four-hour marriage- enrichment class, which aims to help couples strengthen their relationship. And there's a class on dealing with divorce.

Carson Gis Identified ; 3 From 3rd Hbct Were Killed in Roadside Blast Last Week

The Army on Tuesday identified three Fort Carson soldiers killed last week by a roadside bomb in Iraq. Staff Sgt. Curtis T. Howard II, 32, of Ann Arbor, Mich., Sgt. Gordon F. Misner II, 23, of Sparks, Nev., and Spc. Thomas J. Wilwerth, 21, of Mastic, N.Y., died Feb. 22 near Balad when a bomb detonated near their M-2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle.
