State Unveils Its Plan for West-Side Expressway
State highway officials want to rebuild U.S. Highway 24 through the west side of Colorado Springs as a 40-mph expressway, rather than a high-speed, limited-access freeway. Preliminary plans, announced Wednesday by the Colorado Department of Transportation, call for the $240 million expressway to be six lanes wide from Interstate 25 west to Manitou Avenue where it would shrink to match the existing four-lane highway.
Springs' Abc Affiliate to Be Sold ; Family-Owned Missouri Firm Plans to Buy Krdo
After 51 years at the helm of KRDO/Channel 13, the Hoth family announced plans Wednesday to sell the ABC affiliate to another family-owned firm, News-Press & Gazette Broadcasting of St. Joseph, Mo., for an undisclosed amount. The sale, which needs Federal Communications Commission approval, includes KRDOTV, its sister station KJCT/Channel 8 in Grand Junction and Colorado Springs radio station KRDO (1240 AM). It did not include KRDO (95.1 FM), which may be sold separately.

Rape Charges Dropped Against Air Force Cadet
Prosecutors Wednesday dropped a felony rape charge against an Air Force Academy cadet who had been accused of assaulting a teenage girl. Nicholas O. Martin, 21, was charged with first-degree sexual assault after a 17-year-old high school student told police the cadet got her drunk and raped her at a Sept. 10 party in Fountain.
