Official: Voters Face a Choice ; Proposed Sales Tax Could Be Alternative to Park
A plan that could ensure El Paso County's parks are never turned into condo developments could be tied to voter approval of a sales tax in the Nov. 4 election. The choice facing voters, according to county Commissioner Wayne Williams, is whether to provide sufficient tax money for the government to do its job or to leave other options open for raising funds, including the sale of parkland.
Purple Tokens of Gratitude ; 4 Soldiers Awarded Purple Hearts for Iraq War Wounds
Four members of the 4th Infantry Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team were awarded Purple Heart medals Thursday for their Iraq war wounds and heard a cautiously upbeat report from their commander at the front. Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Hammond, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, spoke by video link from Baghdad to the medal ceremony, held on Fort Carson.

An El Paso County jury late Wednesday acquitted Oscar's Tejon Street bar owner Philip Duhon of misdemeanor assault. "I never lost my faith in the judicial system," Duhon said Thursday. "The curiosity was the bureaucracy to get there."
