Jereme Lamberth was convicted Friday of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Colorado Springs police detective Jared Jensen in February 2006.

2nd-Degree Murder

The second-degree murder verdict means jurors did not believe beyond a reasonable doubt that the killing was premeditated.

The maximum sentence for second-degree murder is 48 years, but prosecutors said Friday that they will try to have Lamberth, who has three previous felony convictions, declared a habitual criminal, which could increase his sentence to 144 years.
