Five people aboard an air ambulance jet taking off from the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport narrowly avoided injury Saturday after the plane blew two tires and slid off the end of a runway.

The plane, a twin-engine Lear 25, had stopped in Colorado Springs for fuel and was taking off for its final destination when the first tire on the main landing gear blew out about 2 p.m. while the plane hurtled down the runway at nearly 120 mph.
