DENVER - State senators burned another hole in the proposed statewide smoking ban Tuesday, exempting bingo halls before approving a measure now mostly stripped of its original intent.

House Bill 1175 sponsors say that if they are unable to patch the smoking ban back together they will kill it before it gets to Gov. Bill Owens' desk. That would leave the door wide open for a citizen initiative to be placed on the November ballot.
