1976 MONTREAL GAMES (SUMMER)

Bidding: Persistency paid off for Montreal, - which had lost seven Olympic bids, including a try for the 1932 Winter Games, awarded to Lake Placid, N.Y. Montreal beat Moscow and Los Angeles in International Olympic Committee voting in 1970 in Amsterdam - L.A. bowed out in the first round, then Montreal topped Moscow 41-28. Moscow and L.A. hosted the next two Summer Games, in 1980 and 1984.
