DENVER - The state Senate exempted several types of establishments from the proposed statewide smoking ban Monday, leaving the future of the legislation somewhat hazy.

Initial approval of House Bill 1175, the Colorado Clean Indoor Act, came after more than two hours of debate on the Senate floor during which exemptions for casinos, small bars, racetracks and private clubs were added.
