Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse will receive a $250,000 tax break from the city of Colorado Springs in exchange for construction of a store along a troubled stretch of Academy Boulevard.

The City Council on Tuesday voted 6-2 to approve a maximum $50,000-a-year sales tax rebate for Lowe's for the first five years of the store's operation. The store is expected to open by June 2012 at the Citadel Crossing shopping center, southeast of Academy and Galley Road.
