David Barkley stepped away from coaching for five years, so Cheyenne Mountain's superb season was a special treat for The Gazette's Class 5A-4A Volleyball Coach of the Year.

The former Villanova head volleyball coach is now in his sixth year as a teacher at Cheyenne Mountain, Barkley is chairman of the English department. He became the volleyball assistant in his third year at the school and has been head coach for three seasons while leading the Indians to three state tournaments.
