Dan Hugill enjoyed a banner season in his first year as Coronado's varsity boys basketball coach.

The 39-year-old inherited a program that had not won a league title in 20 years and led it to the quarterfinals of the Class 5A state playoffs. Along the way, Coronado won the 5A Metro League championship. The Cougars finished the season with an 18-4 record.
