Summary


There's obviously an element of politics in the sudden interest the Legislature's Democrats are taking in contracting problems at state agencies, which they demonstrated Wednesday by creating a Senate Select Committee on Accountability to investigate a series of information technology glitches.

If they can lay these problems at the feet of a Republican governor, or the former Republican majority, they'll score political points. And it never hurts the party of big, sloppy government to strike the pose of fiscal watchdog, even if the barking and growling is highly selective.
