Critic Picks His Best Films of 2009

Summary


This may be the oddest and most eclectic "Best Of? list I've ever compiled. Half is strongly art-house and indie-minded, while the other half is firmly entrenched in solid blockbuster territory. How to explain it? Simple. Among the films I first viewed in 2009, these are my favorites. These are the ones that lingered with me longest, that I couldn't wait to revisit. After all, what is a "Best Of? list but an inventory of personal favorites? Still, there is a certain sponginess to this list and some of the entries will flip-flop, as they have been doing in my mind for several weeks.
