When tending your lawn and garden, also tend to the safety of your pets, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals encourages.

Make sure pets don't go on lawns or in gardens treated with fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides until after the time span listed on the manufacturer's label. Store such products in areas inaccessible to children and pets.
