Summary


There was little drama but lots of pleasure at Saturday's Colorado Springs Philharmonic concert in a program with Mozart's Serenade, K. 361 and Haydn's Symphony No. 104.

Mozart's seven-movement serenade is an enormous piece that's probably a hundred times better than it needed to be for the long- forgotten celebration for which it was written. The highlight is the famous adagio -- actually, the first of two adagios. With its slowly walking bass line, quietly pulsating chordal accompaniment and meltingly tender melody, it's the precursor to the famous slow movement from the piano concerto K. 467.
