Colorado Springs police officials said Friday that evidence in thousands of criminal cases had been accidentally destroyed, but they couldn't say if any suspects will go free because of the error.
Police Chief Luis Velez said a preliminary report delivered to him Friday morning indicated 11,395 pieces of evidence were mistakenly lost in 4,103 criminal cases during the past 10 years. In that time, police investigated 447,446 cases -- meaning less than 1 percent of the cases were affected, Velez said.See the full content of this document
