Garden Club Cultivates Orchard Restoration

Summary


It's been going strong for 71 years -- since a meeting hosted by Julie Penrose at her home, El Pomar -- and the legacy of The Broadmoor Garden Club continues.

At the group's fall meeting in September, members toured the ongoing Chambers Orchards restoration project at Rock Ledge Ranch. Now a historic site, Rock Ledge was farmed by the Chambers family starting in 1874 and became one of the county's most successful working ranches. Through gifts, assistance and volunteer work, The Broadmoor Garden Club, a member of The Garden Club of America, has provided a stand of young apple trees.
