Construction of a gas-fired power plant will begin this spring in southeast El Paso County if officials give their approval.

Local residents wouldn't get the electricity the 500-megawatt plant produces. It would be routed to Xcel Energy's 1.3 million electric customers in Denver, the Interstate 70 corridor, Western Slope and San Luis Valley.
