Summary
I just ate what will likely be the last meal of the year from my little vegetable garden.
I picked a fistful of tender, sweet oakleaf lettuce, plucked a few shiny sprigs from a sweet basil plant, and another few from a lettuce-leaf basil that grows palm-size, crinkly leaves. Then I sliced a deep, dark, rich, meaty Black Brandywine heirloom tomato into thin, juicy rounds. I piled everything on toasted hippy whole- wheat bread with a swipe of light mayo and four crispy strips of bacon.
