This is a high-altitude mountain bike ride in the Salida area with nice singletrack and lovely mountain views. It's just below the exit for the epic Monarch Crest Trail, so if you're hard-core, plan a two-fer. And do it while the trail is open; there's talk it may be closed to mountain bikes. To get there: Take U.S. Highway 285 for 4.5 miles south of Poncha Springs and pull off on the right at the Rainbow Trail trailhead (just past Forest Service/County Road 200).
