Times are, without question, tough in the hotel industry - the current slump is now in its third year - but the downturn has been both a challenge and an opportunity for Benchmark Hospitality International, said Burt Caba's, the company's chairman and CEO.

Caba's was in Colorado Springs last month to present the company's Chairman's Award to Mike VanDuzer, director of facilities for the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, which Benchmark manages for a partnership controlled by a division of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.
