Cardwell is one of four volunteers who cook at Urban Peak Colorado Springs, a transitional shelter for homeless 15- to 19- year-olds that opened Nov. 29 at 423 E. Cucharras St. She's also planning a culinary training program to teach the teens basic skills that can land them restaurant jobs.
