Independent Memorial Would Pay $5 Million Into Health Foundation

An independent Memorial Health System would make a one-time $5 million payment to a foundation set up to promote health care in Colorado Springs and would make yearly payments of at least $500,000, a City Council task force laying out plans to free the city-owned hospital agreed Tuesday.

With a Jan. 25 deadline for the full council to vote on the proposal to turn Memorial into an independent nonprofit, and a slew of other deadlines coming up to place the issue on the April ballot, the task force tried to lay out principles that the council, and voters, would support.
