Jealousy over an affair drove a Colorado Springs artist to falsely accuse his assistant of pilfering $800,000 worth of artwork, a lawyer for the assistant said Friday in court.

Russell Williams, 44, was ordered to stand trial on a charge of theft of more than $15,000, a felony that could send him to prison for four to 12 years. Trial has been set for June 13.
