If Deborah Harrison's life were a fable, her tale would go something like this:

Starry-eyed woman falls in love with a charming old fixer-upper in Manitou Springs. Buys the property in 1986 and is blindsided when, in no time at all, a hailstorm shreds the roof, a main waterline fails and a rickety porch has to be dismantled to fix the line. Spends the next 17 years replacing the roof, porch and kitchen; restoring whole rooms; and basically pouring her heart, soul and uncounted sums of cash into the place. Ends up with a stunning showpiece -- a jewel in the form of a threestory Dutch Colonial Revival home on a hill.
