Mall's Fate Will Be Decided Next Month, Documents Say

General Growth Properties must decide next month whether to try to keep Chapel Hills Mall and 12 other "underperforming" centers, sell them or turn them over to lenders holding mortgages on them as the company emerges from U.S. Bankruptcy Court, documents show.

On Thursday, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Allan Gropper in New York confirmed the Chicago-based company's reorganization plan. General Growth expects to conclude its restructuring on Nov. 8, bringing to a close the largest real estate bankruptcy case in U.S. history.
