Colorado Springs police officer Ben Reed was justified in returning fire in a shootout last month with a fleeing suspect, the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office ruled Thursday.

One of Reed's bullets hit Jody Lee Balentine in the buttocks, but the fatal bullet came from Balentine's gun when he shot himself in the head, according to the autopsy. His death was ruled a suicide.
