Demagogues control rhetoric on the right and left, and it's getting goofy. It's about my team versus your team, "left" versus "right," Republican versus Democrat, religious versus nonreligious. Don't think, just counter to the other team.
No demagogue better represented the dumbed-down nature of political rhetoric this week than Bill Press, a radio host and former chair of the California Democratic party. Press can't stand competing demagogue Glenn Beck, who can't stand President Barack Obama. Beck held an enormous rally in Washington and spoke about honor and God from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Whatever anyone thinks of Beck, his rally and his speech were classy.
