Penrose Will Test Patients for 'Supergerm'

Summary


Beginning today, every patient entering Penrose Hospital's intensive care unit will be tested for a "supergerm" resistant to commonly prescribed antibiotics, a practice that will expand to the entire hospital in coming months.

Medical staff and visitors will be required to wear gowns and gloves when seeing patients who test positive for the germ, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA.
