This is the seventh time Democrat Michael Merrifield, 63, has run for public office. In 1996 the retired vocal music teacher was elected to the Manitou Springs City Council. For eight years, he has been a State Representative and most recently chaired the House Education Committee and served on the House Transportation and Energy Committee.
