Summary


It runs contrary to our instincts and experience when we hear claims made that the public sector (i.e., government) can do anything with the same efficiency or cost effectiveness as the private sector can. So we urge City Council to look skeptically at a proposal to turn over to the Colorado Springs Fire Department ambulance services currently provided by a private contractor.

Such caution is doubly important because Fire Chief Manuel Navarro and others studying the issue at council's request have such a big stake in the outcome. With all due respect to Navarro, we would have preferred that council rely on a more disinterested and objective source of analysis.
