After a rough start during the first six months, the Pikes Peak region's single-family housing market recorded one of its best years in 2003.

Single-family home sales totaled 10,204 last year, a 4.7 percent gain from 2002, according to figures compiled this week by the Pikes Peak Association of Realtors. It's the first time sales cracked the 10,000 mark in nearly 20 years of recordkeeping by the association's research arm.
