Delta Air Lines will merge its Colorado Springs operations with Northwest Airlines on Tuesday as part of a worldwide effort to combine the two carriers into the world's largest airline in the wake of a $2.6 billion merger in October.

The two airlines will both use Delta's ticket counter and gate in Colorado Springs Airport's passenger terminal beginning Tuesday. The airlines will retain the carriers' 21 employees in a consolidation that should be "seamless" to passengers, said Anthony Black, a Delta spokesman in Atlanta. Delta has been consolidating facilities at airports nationwide, including Denver International Airport, this year and hopes to complete the process next year, he said.
