Summary

William "Bill" Bolton was born in San Antonio, TX, on July 14, 1932. He died February 27, 2004 in San Diego. Bill entered the Army in 1948 and took his basic training at Ft. Ord, CA. He was assigned to his father's old outfit, the 1st Cavalry Division. His first duty was in Tokyo, Japan, from where he went to Korea in June of 1950, when that war broke out. While serving in a reconnaissance unit he received the Bronze Star for rescuing three wounded men while under fire. He returned to the states and was stationed at Ft. MacArthur, CA. His next duty was Ft. Richardson, AK, and then back to the states to Ft. Lewis, WA. Bill had two tours of duty in Turkey, one at NATO (Izmir) and the other at JUSSMAT (Ankara). He also had two tours at Ft. Carson, CO, retiring from there in 1968. During his career he earned many medals and commendations, but he was most proud of and always wore on his uniform his Combat Infantry Badge. Bill reached the rank of SGM at age 33, one of the youngest SMG's in the Army. He had his own TV sales and repair business in Colorado Springs, CO, until 1977, when he returned to California and San Diego, his favorite city. There he worked for Tracor for over ten years.

Bill is predeceased by his father William L. Bolton, Lt. Col. USA (Res), an Army chaplain and pastor of the First Baptist Church in Ocean Beach for many years; his mother Eva May (Cash) Bolton; his oldest sister Eileen (Bolton) Wright and her husband Lenard Wright.
